Don't EVEN get me started on this one.

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/0105/31tristate.html

My family knows I want to be cremated.  Organs donated, ashes scattered to the wind (yeah, at Disney World).  But this guy only gets 12 years WITH probabation and lord only knows what other "gifts"?  And to do this in multiple states and have the sentences run concurrently is way beyond comprehension.

This guy knew what he was doing and just got caught.  All the families wanted was closure on the 334 bodies - yes, 334 bodies.  Think about it.  You want to see 334 decomposed human bodies in basically a landfill?  And he gets 12 years.  He's 31 years old.  He'll be my age when he gets out - IF he serves the entire sentence.

And he doesn't even have the decency to offer any kind of explanation for the families.  "Oh, I just didn't want to give you their real ashes".  Freak.

i remember hearing about this story way back when (though i couldnt access the link, wanted a signin).  my aunt and uncle live in Georgia, so i heard about it through them.  I think its just messed up the blatant disregard he had for the dead.  He's a friggin cemetary owner, why the hell would he just toss those bodies in the trash.... sigh.  i dont know if he should fry, but 12 years aint damn near enough for what hes done.  Maybe a firing squad or something instead.

I remember hearing about this story. Didn't read it from your link though since it requires registration of some sort.

The story is kind of long or I'd post it here.  You can log on as me - disnut8 and password piglet01.

Basically, the crematory owner just dumped the bodies behind the building in a lake instead of burning them.  After the authorities were notified (I think it was an anonymous call), they ended up finding 334 bodies they could account for.  The families had been given regular wood ashes for burial instead.  After more investigation, the police found out the guy had done this in Tennessee and Alabama as well as in north Georgia.

In a plea bargain made back last fall, the guy was able to plead guilty to all counts, get a max sentence of 12 years (could be out in Cool, probation after that (I guess he won't be running anymore crematories, and he didn't have to offer any explanation to the families.  Members of 43 different families testified at his sentencing and all wanted to know "why"?  The guy just apologized and said nothing about why.

His incinerator "died" and he was too cheap to buy a new one.  And this does make you wonder where any regulatory commissions were, as this was going on for quite some time.
