Yes, I love all things Disney but this is pretty neat:

Award honors Disney's newest mountain

The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) has honored the Expedition Everest—Legend of the Forbidden Mountain™ attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park with the prestigious 2006 THEA Award for "Outstanding Attraction."

Walt Disney Imagineers will accept the award during a gala event on March 3.

"This marks the pinnacle of an amazing achievement involving more than six years of research to the far corners of the earth, extensive design and planning, as well as massive engineering, construction and landscaping operations to achieve this immersive environment," said a proud Joe Rohde, the attraction's Executive Designer and the Creative Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering.

The award is just the latest honor for Walt Disney Imagineering, a team of creative and technical professionals working in more than 140 diverse disciplines to create Disney Theme Parks, Resorts, attractions, cruise ships, real estate developments and regional entertainment venues worldwide.

-------------------------------------------------

All I can say is if you think you know everything about roller coasters and thrill rides and all that, you still have to experience this attraction.  It's not a gut wrenching, "oh I'm gonna die" coaster but it's so much more than that.  As one guy put it - "it's an attraction that just happens to have a roller coaster in it".  It doesn't induce puking after but I challenge anyone to say it was just OK.  Pure artestry of the theming and the message.  And a freaking total fake out from what you *think* is going to happen.  When you go into the mountain, prepare for a total mind buck.

I can't go on this anymore and it's one of the two attractions that I will really mourn.  But I'm glad it's there for everyone else to ride.  If you never ride this one, you will have lost a great opportunity.  And I *hate* roller coasters.

Disney World does not have roller coasters! It's a kiddie place that has baby rides. CEDAR POINT RULLLLLLLLLLXXXXXZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ldkhgkljadsfghaskl~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the general idea these people in Ohio have. They hold Cedar Point as the almighty high of amusement parks. I think I would get tired of nothing but roller coasters there. When people ask if I've ever been to Cedar Point and I say no, they look at me funny and then look at me funny again when I say I'd rather go to Disney World. I think most people in the Toledo area have never been outside the Great Lakes region

Sad silly people.  If people think like that, there is nothing short of forcing them to Disney World to change their minds.  There are very, and I mean VERY few "kiddie rides" in any of the four parks.  MGM and Epcot have absolutely none. If Animal Kingdom didn't have Tricrotop Spin, that park would qualify as no "kiddie rides" as well.  Almost four of the six lands in Magic Kingdom are free of "kiddie rides" (the Aladdin spitting camels are the exception).

People who think like this have only one eye open to the world and its experiences.  Hell, Disney World even saved my life one time.  I skidded on the ice in Nebraska and went into a nasty spin.  I remembered the advice from Test Track and using the ABS brakes.  Just stomp on them.  I did.  Came out of that spin just fine.

what with all the great scenic locations, awesome industrial pollution, and winning sports teams, why would they need to? <-- sarcastically

Hey, the Detroit Lions are going all the way next year! And I love swimming in Lake Erie! And the cities of Detroit and Toledo are the cream of the crop!

disnut8,

If you truly like all things Disney, then you'd appreciate some artwork that I have.  I have 2 frames hand painted cells from the TV series "The Lion King" with the hand sketch of the cell in the same frame.  I also have a signed cell from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

I've always wanted real animation cells and back in 2000 I had a chance ( and more money than braisn at the time) to purchase them.

Oh, these aren't 35mm file cells that got cut out on the editting room floor, these are the original hand painted 8.5" x 11" artwork.  Very unique pieces.

Our living room and bedroom art is nothing but Disney cericels.  I don't even know how many we have.  Some are autographed as well.  The only non Disney one is "Speechless" which was done after Mel Blanc died in 1989.  We have snowglobes, Ron Lee art, you name it.  And I have more Piglet pink in the house that you would think a Pepto-Bismol truck exploded in here.

But I'd love to see the ones you have.  Take pictures and PM me.  Now the huge deal is pins which I don't get into at all.

as requested. Sorry about the glare but you get the idea of the pictures.  I don't curently have them up on a wall as they need to be sent out to get reframed.  We had them in storage while we were building our house and they got exposed to a little too much humidity.

Oh yeah - Those are not for public consumption, though.  They are safely put away behind the glass doors of the bookshelf with all the Stephen King first editions.  Hell, dust doesn't even collect on those.
