Quick run-down of what's been happening lately: - Still waiting for a response from ServerPronto so we can get the forum data recovered, hopefully. - Unrelated, but I actually finished my QuakeCon review over at jitspoe.com- I threw in a handy command for recording: "arecord". It does the same thing as record, but tacks on the map name and timestamp (ie: arecord pub might record to pub_midnight_20070103_034002). - Demo recording also checks for existing demos and avoids overwriting them, so if you have a test.dm2 and type "record test", it will record to test_001.dm2. - On to more critical stuff: I'm close to completing the client/game server interaction to obtain unique hardware identifiers (don't worry, it's hashed with irreversible algorithms). I still need to work on the Linux side of this and get the game server/global login server interaction and storage completed.

Wouldn't the new demo's be to long to see the whole thing in the demo chooser. For people like Spook who records his jumps and he has to put in all of what he wants to say in 10 charcters.

Ok, I don't think we need to hear about what you can cram into small areas here. I should probably make that demo selection list wider anyway, but it won't kill you if part of the timestamp gets cut off. On a productive note, I've added a search function to the player list on the global login page since it was getting pretty long.

I've finished up the new files page (with the dropdown mirror list) and made it live.

Argh! Stupid inconsistent AES implementations! Something that should have only taken a few minutes ended up taking hours and it's still not "right." The last two blocks don't decrypt correctly, so I ended up just adding 2 blocks of junk at the end that get ignored. This is why development takes forever. Every "this should just take a minute" ends up being an hour of hair pulling.

It's for those long programming stints. If there wasn't enough hair to pull, paintball builds would never get done.

By that logic, I get all sorts of programming done because my hair is pretty short. Either that or I'm just a crappy programmer and I've already pulled it all out

That's why you have to ask me questions all the time -- you don't have enough hair to pull to figure it out on your own. I'm hair for you when you need me, man!

Just curious... What changes can we expect to see with B17 and are you nearing it's completion?

Picasso: the key change is the global login system, but there are plenty of little tweaks to go along with it that I've done out of necessity, boredom, and/or sanity prolongment.
Last night and today, I've been working on reorganizing my personal machines and setting up a backup/file server. I'd like to get it set up to receive automated backups from the EV1 server as well. I also installed Ubuntu on an older desktop during my lunch break for testing.

Things are going well for my personal computer reorganization. I finally have some leg room and will hopefully be getting an automated backup system in place soon. Minor setback: the bios in my old Abit BP6 motherboard doesn't seem to recognize more than 128 gigs (or maybe it's Windows, but my bet is on the old hardware). I hope that's enough to do the backups I need.
I'm going on my first "field mission" for work next week, so I probably won't be getting anything done then and might be out of touch all week.

Fixed a crash dealing with scaling very large textures (larger than 1024x1024).
I'm running into this really annoying issue. Paintball2 runs fine when I execute it from visual studio, but when I run it by itself, it frequently crashes or closes immediately. Gotta get that resolved before I do anything else.

Why would we even need textures that big? O_o I'd actually like to see a map in which it is used.

Uni is working on a city map with some high-res textures that he purchased.
I got cygwin set up on my server machine with the backup drive. I can ssh into it now and scp data. It's pretty slick. Now all I need to do is set up a script that will scp all the data over on a regular basis.

Still hoping to get the data back to get the official forums back up and running, but when I do get them back up, and a script in place, we won't have to worry about losing more than a day's worth of posts if something happens to the server.
I'm heading out of town all of next week, so I probably won't be getting any work done for a while.
