WHen I moderate the other forums, first offense is a nast-e-gram and an edited or removed post.  Second offense of the same nature, pack ur bags ur going on a trip - one way.

The moderators job is to keep order; keep posts on topic and nurture the well being of the bbs, not babysitting.

Sorry Doug, I jsut have zero tolorance for members that habitualy break forum rules, be it the letter of the rule or the spirit of the rule.  Kind of like using older clients ....

LOL I was trying to be lenient comparatively speaking of jitspoe's course of discipline on his forum.

I've always tried to use a "strike three, your out approach" to discipline but when it comes to this, I have zero tolerance as well and your "if you can't hear me the first time, you'll surely hear me the second time" approach makes more sense.

Both take care of the problem quicker than what we've dealt with on the original forum.

Stupidity is not a reason for comments though.  The best way to defeat stupidity is to ignore it.

On the other hand, perhaps it is not stupidity that you are seeing, but rather a new player that does not understand the game itself making seemingly idiotic comments about something that you find is trivial.  Then there are those that make silly comments for no sensible reason.

Still...the best way to avoid a flamer (or creating flames) is to ignore the inflammatory comments to begin with.  But to insult or degrade someone that makes idiotic statements will certainly create flames where they are not needed.

Temper your statements towards others and you will come out on top most of the time.

Jitspoe, The action taken towards Skater is not the only action that I have seen.  I refer to the 'Sticky' about good will towards others (or what ever it says) and keeping the forums a 'clean' place.  I also have not seen the sort of attitude that was on the original forums.  I think it is fairy refreshing, personally.

No, its not new players. It's people like loial.

About the Law of Unintended Consiquence.
"Whether or not what you do has the effect you want, it will have three at least you never expected, and one of those is usually unpleasant."- Credited to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Jordan

Please understand, this type of moderation and strict inforcement is needed, unless growth is not your goal. Otherwise you are wasting your time and the time of honest caring indviduals.

I know that sounds queer, but its the truth. I dont need to tell you the ramifications of not knowing the differnece between free speech and hurtful speech, both are free. You have shown this to be a quality of yours, Nathan. "Knowing the differnece."

But you are one person. Moderators can usually catch the harm or subvert it.

How many slaps to the face must a man endore when making a legitimate, thoughtful point?

Like Skaters last post. Although laking the rudeness it does demand further explantion. What according to Skater am I doing wrong? Is his a legetimate arguemnt?

1. If so then...
2. If not then..

Admins what do you think?

Not an admin here, but somewhere else and I think you just have to continue being thoughtful and keep things on the up and up. You want to know why he's saying those things then ask him. He's either going to ignore you because he has no answer or he's going to say something that will get him banned.

His comment was kind of pointless, but maybe he just didn't feel he could make his point clear at the moment. Maybe he'll say something later. And trust me, elmono and super and jitspoe will be watching the forums to keep everyone happy. Smiley

I shouldn't have to clarify my reason for calling loial stupid, its blatantly obvious. I don't care though, it's not worth being temp banned again over. I'll just sit back.

I'm not striving for any moderation awards, but I do find it a little bit insulting that the previous forums weren't considered moderated.
I have said before you are too forgiving and over worked. Which means to me you acknowledge the problem and act on it. Its when you have to do it over and over with the same people, well... thus the forgiveness. No one questions your intent or dedication unless punched by me first! I remember I accidentally ran over some floating objects that looked like paintball guns. 7 years later I have witnessed alot of stuff that would not other wise be tolerated in any other game. Do I need to point out again, you are doing the job of 10's of people. You only have the time of one person. Not fair to you or anyone else helping. Personally speaking, I dont want anyone punished. If they can not learn to behave on their own, then ala supermercado make them learn. Life is too short for anything else.

I am zealot. I taunt known cheaters and aliases to the degree of asking what they were thinking. Literally. This might annoy the new players or even worse spark a curiosity. I will not continue it. My New Years resolution.

Which leads back to my thread and a questions of skills.

1. How often must an opponent be destroyed before it is no longer fun for either party? If no longer fun how to improve? Where to begin?
2.When is enough, enough? Explain the difference between being out skilled vs are you just playing on the wrong map?
3.Which is greater?  Pre-arranged vs spur of the moment matches?

Your thoughts?

*edit elmono311 and Vengeance,
I will ignore, as you suggested. Thanks for the good advice. In my zeal I tend to forget that ignoring is an option. But for how long? Smiley

This thread needs to be back on topic without incident or it's done.

I actually found myself getting along with Skater (Shane) on GRaFFiTi servers today.

OMG...the world has ended.

thought this would never happen. It's great, don't get me wrong, just kind of tripping me out I guess.

Ya can't split a small community like this one.
As far as the pure head to head competition goes, you really can't do much. Handicapping of any kind would be suspect at best. Who's to say what clan gets how much handicap?

The truth of the matter is, the community is so small that competitive growth is muted. The community does not have a constant influx of new talent. Any highly talented FPS players are playing more modern games. The really good players of DP are mainly players from a day when DP was a younger engine. Those people have either latched on to DP as their sole source of FPS ownage, or ventured out into other games and still always come back to DP to play.

Make a DP mod using the BF2 engine and that will all change!
