Well, my mom has this deal through her work in which she recieves a check of up to 2500 dollars to spend on a computer. Then we make small weekly payments. She said I could spend around 1700 bucks. So I picked out what I thought was a pretty nice comp.

Here is a pic of the case:

Specs:

Nzxt Apollo Gaming Tower Case
NZXT PF-500 500 Watt Power Supply
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 (2x 2.4GHz/4MB L2 Cache/1066FSB)
ECS 965T-A P965 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, USB 2.0 PCI-E MB
2048MB [1024MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Corsair RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT 512mb
250gb harddrive
Then windows for my os, upgrading to vista. Then cd/dvd burner, etc.

What do you think?

Ummmmmm I don't think you have enough RAM!! LOL  Good Lord must be nice having mummy Tongue  The tower is very nice and although I'm partial to AMD and comfortable with my ATI vid card, you have a badass system here.

I think my system is now officially prehistorically OBSOLETE for being over 4 years old.  I built it tough and it has lasted... Well, it's still runnin aint it!! Tongue

The new intel processors have outdone any other processor on the market. the e6600 is like the third best processor. 2gb of ram is enough? lol.

I wish I had the money to get a beast like that. Instead I've had to upgrade slowly

Looks like a nice rig. I've never heard of the power supply, though. I agonized over the processor for my last build but when it came time to pick the power supply, that actually took even longer to pick. I ended up with a fantastic Enermax Liberty unit that I just love.

Someday, when I can afford to build again, I'll do a lil research and build for stability.  Hopefully I'll get 4 good years out of that system Smiley  No tellin what will be available then.

I'll bet that one lasts you a long time...  What system are ya on now?

I haven't heard of that power supply, either.  You might want to go with something a little more well known for stability, like a Seasonic.  Other than that, it should be good.  2gb is sufficient.  If you get more, it can actually slow things down.

I think it all really depends on the rails, especially the +12V. You want plenty of juice on there - I'm sure the 7950 can suck the power down. Although it's probably based on the 7900 family, which is supposed to be less of a power draw than the 7800s.

I have two hard drives, an optical drive, and a DVD-ROM along with my 7900GT and it all runs gorgeously on my Enermax Liberty 400W. I think the, what is it, 500 or 550, that jitspoe has is way more than you really need. There's nothing wrong with getting a huge one but it's probably not needed.

A 400W PS is not only more than sufficient for what Shane has described, it is pretty much enough for a few more things he might want to add to his PC.  500w+ is overkill and costs a chunk more.  Buy a 400w and use the left over money for a comfortable chair.

The stability/quality of the power supply is usually more important than the wattage, but it's definitely possible to underpower the beefy graphics cards that are out these days.  Also, I hope you have some good A/C.  Each generation of machines seems to run hotter than the last.

Yes, definitely. I didn't mean to imply that a 400W would be sufficient for every system because that's definitely not the case. For a system that doesn't have half a dozen disk drives and two video cards and has a lot of onboard components, 400W is plenty.

I'd check the recommendations on the card first, though.  Card manufacturers usually have a suggested power supply wattage.

Ya, Sparkle is underrated, seems like. They're made by Fortron, who everyone knows is good stuff. Sparkle is Forton's OEM brand, I think is what it is, and they're basically the same high quality stuff. Far better than whatever unit Dell had in there, isn't it? Didn't you say it was much, much quieter?

Yeah, it is. Now my goal is to get a new monitor and speakers... or just build a completely new machine when the funds become available

Well, for the power supply, I'll see what I can do. It was recomended by the site, I'll have to look at some reviews.

If you can, you'd probably be best off getting the case without the power supply and then springing for a good unit that you know the specs of.

That's exactly the same as my system specs-wise, except your video card is 50 more, and you've got a processor that .4 ghz faster than mine.

Also your case is cooler. But probably heavier too. Ha.

What processor do you have? Also if you have the 7900 the 7950 is 512mb, not 256mb. I've read a lot of reviews on the processor im getting and looked and benchmarks and it tops every other processor.

extreme edition is like 1000 alone. The e6600 and e7700 were first place in almost every bench mark I looked at.

Side note... if you're running a 500W power supply, you're probably writing yourself off from running SLI in the future (especially on 8-series cards).   Just something to consider when some of the Thermaltake or Silverstone 600 or 700s aren't a large upgrade.
