The biggest surprises, in my opinion, were Don Cheadle for Best Actor (one of my favorite actors), Alan Alda and Jamie Foxx for Best Supporting Actors, and Natalie Portman for Best Supporting Actress.

And Vegeance, you see a song that Josh Grobin sang was nominated? I bet he'll be at the Awards singing it. Oh, and before Vengeance complains, I bet the reason why The Polar Express was not nominated for Animated Feature is because of the fact it was film with live actors and then generated with computers. The Academy doesn't like that for some reason

And Fahrenheit 9/11 was not nominated for Documentary because Michael Moore thought he was greater than everybody and could submit the film for Best Picture and not Documentary

Oh, and one more thing... I thought sequels couldn't be nominated for Best Score. John Williams was nomainted for Harry Potter, which is a sequel...

I didn't even see all of these things, but I'm an uninformed voter like most of the public so here's my picks.

Actor in a Leading Role
Don Cheadle - Hotel Rwanda
Johnny Depp - Finding Neverland
Leornardo DiCaprio - The Aviator
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Jamie Foxx - Ray

Just the preview of Hotel Rwanda blew me away as far as Don Cheadle. I'm really wanting to see this film.

Actor in a Supporting Role
Alan Alda - The Aviator
Thomas Haden Church - Sideways
Jamie Foxx - Collateral
Morgan Freeman - Million Dollar Baby
Clive Owen - Closer

I'm in lust with Morgan Freeman so sue me.

Actress in a Leading Role
Annette Bening - Being Julia
Catalina Sandino Moreno - Maria Full of Grace
Imelda Staunton - Vera Drake
Hilary Swank - Million Dollar Baby
Kate Winslet - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I have absolutely no opinion on this one.

Actress in a Supporting Role
Cate Blanchett - The Aviator
Laura Linney - Kinsey
Virginia Madsen - Sideways
Sophie Okonedo - Hotel Rwanda
Natalie Portman - Closer

I'm really bad with picking the women, I guess. I did hear that Natalie Portman was great in Closer though.

Animated Feature Film
The Incredibles
Shark Tale
Shrek 2

Art Direction
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Phantom of the Opera
A Very Long Engagement

No clue.

Cinematography
The Aviator
House of Flying Daggers
The Passion of the Christ
The Phantom of the Opera
A Very Long Engagement

Again...no clue. Mom liked Passion though.

Costume Design
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Ray
Troy

From what I've seen I'd say that Lemony Snicket was the most interesting.

Directing
Martin Scorsese - The Aviator
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Taylor Hackford - Ray
Alexander Payne - Sideways
Mike Leigh - Vera Drake

Personally, I have a lot of respect for actors that can direct and act in the same movie.

Documentary Feature
Born Into Brothels
The Story of the Weeping Camel
Super Size Me
Tupac: Resurrection
Twist of Faith

This guy should win just to make him feel better about what he did to his health and how stupid he looks now.

Documentary Short Subject
Autism is a World
The Children of Leningradsky
Hardwood
Mighty Times: The Children's March
Sister Rose's Passion

Never even heard of them.

Film Editing
The Aviator
Collateral
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
Ray

They give awards for everything, don't they?

Foreign Language Film
As It is In Heaven
The Chorus
Downfall
The Sea Inside
Yesterday

Whichever one is Mexican...  Wink

Makeup
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Passion of the Christ
The Sea Inside

Anyone that can get someone to look that beat up and still be alive is a winner in my book.

Music (Score)
Jan A.P. Kaczmarek - Finding Neverland
John Williams - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Thomas Newman - Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
John Debney - The Passion of the Christ
James Newton Howard - The Village

That music seems to be the most intense. I liked it.

Music (Song)
Accidentely in Love - Shrek 2
Al Otro Lado Del R?o - The Motorcycle Diaries
Believe - The Polar Express
Learn to be Lonely - The Phantom of the Opera
Look to Your Path (Vois Sur Ton Chemin) - The Chorus

Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE this song.

Picture
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
Ray
Sideways

Johnny Depp got robbed for Pirates, so I'm just going to give this pic a nod for him.

Short Film (Animated)
Birthday Boy
Gopher Broke
Guard Dog
Lorenzo
Ryan

 Huh

Short Film (Live Action)
Everything in This Country Must
Little Terrorist
7:35 in the Morning
Two Cars, One Night
Wasp

 Huh

Sound Editing
The Incredibles
The Polar Express
Spider-Man 2

Sound Mixing
The Aviator
The Incredibles
The Polar Express
Ray
Spider-Man 2

Visual Effects
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I, Robot
Spider-Man 2

Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
Before Sunset
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
The Motorcycle Diaries
Sideways

No idea.

Writing (Original Screenplay)
The Aviator
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Hotel Rwanda
The Incredibles
Vera Drake

It was just funny.

I'm only going with the top six categories.? My hope is italized, who I think will win is bolded.

Actor in a Leading Role

Don Cheadle - Hotel Rwanda
Johnny Depp - Finding Neverland
Leornardo DiCaprio - The Aviator
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Jamie Foxx - Ray

Because Depp has long been considered a "weirdo" but he's done an incredible array of work.? Foxx might be good but I'd like to see him establish himself as a serious actor just a little longer.

Actor in a Supporting Role

Alan Alda - The Aviator
Thomas Haden Church - Sideways
Jamie Foxx - Collateral
Morgan Freeman - Million Dollar Baby
Clive Owen - Closer

Let's face it - Morgan IS the best actor out there never to have won an Oscar.? The man is way, way over due.? Foxx would have a shot but more people will be voting for him for lead.? If Foxx wins this category, he won't win the lead.

Actress in a Leading Role

Annette Bening - Being Julia
Catalina Sandino Moreno - Maria Full of Grace
Imelda Staunton - Vera Drake
Hilary Swank - Million Dollar Baby
Kate Winslet - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Winslet is just a wonderful actress.? She held her own in "Titanic" and deserves it just for putting up with Cameron.

Actress in a Supporting Role

Cate Blanchett - The Aviator
Laura Linney - Kinsey
Virginia Madsen - Sideways
Sophie Okonedo - Hotel Rwanda
Natalie Portman - Closer

I've always liked the Madsen family of actors.

Directing

Martin Scorsese - The Aviator
Clint Eastwood - Million Dollar Baby
Taylor Hackford - Ray
Alexander Payne - Sideways
Mike Leigh - Vera Drake

Payne is a definite longshot since Scorsese has never won.? This will be a sentimental favorite.? Thank goodness the movie deserves the acclaim.

Picture

The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
Ray
Sideways

Although I'd love to see "Finding Neverland" win something.

There's nothing that shows any one film will be a dominate force this year.? Maybe "The Aviator" but Leo ain't going to get Lead Actor.? At least he got nominated this time and doesn't have to snub the ceremony.

Leonardo DiCaprio is not going to get the Oscar because of one man: Jamie Foxx. You know he's going to get it. That one is a hands-down done deal

That and it wasn't really a documentary...  Do they have a "Biggest load of crap" category? Wink
