That much just to negotiate with Daisuke Matsuzaka? The Red Sox are crazy. He has no MLB experienc and his pitch counts are way too high. This amount doesn't even include the guy's salary if the Red Sox do end up signing him.

The estimate for the winning bid was in the $20-30 million range but I wouldn't be surprised if Boston overbid just to prevent the Yankees from getting him

How old is the dude?  As long as Boston and New York spend like that, the other teams don't stand a chance.  When you can spend $50M to block someone from spending $30M, then there's a problem.
