k, a rule... You get one. One favorite song. So, of all-time, what is your favorite song?

Mine is Guns n' Roses - November Rain

311 - Creatures (For A While). Of course, just about all the 311 songs are my favorite

I love the Doors. Good stuff for when I need to get fired up or when I need to chill. It's difficult to find music that can do both.

As for my fave? I'm going to go with All My Roads by Collin Raye.

Ah, that explains it. Can't quite dance to 311 at your wedding, can you? Tongue

You can to Love Song. I hate how that song wasn't out when we had the wedding or it would have definately been on the DJ play list.

This is true. But not to Creatures. Not in any sort of appropriate fashion, anyway.

And the All My Roads song was picked way before the wedding. We looked at the lyrics and figured it was the best fit.

I was a bit bummed when Love Song came out after the fact, too, but at least we dance to it in the kitchen.  Smiley

Well, some 311 songs you SHOULDN'T play at a wedding:

Fat Chance
Fuck the Bullshit
Offbeat Bareass (not at a family gathering, anyway, lol)
Push It Away
Reconsider Everything
Rub a Dub (see: Offbeat Bareass)
Sick Tight
This Too Shall Pass

I think the name chance was because the original was on their Omaha release, but then they were signed. I bet they wanted the song title to be more "parent friendly" and not have a song called F*ck the Bullsh*t listed on the make of Music so they retitled it Fat Chance.

omg, I hate session timeouts... I'm going to abuse the board... just took 10 minutes typing out my response and it times me out and clears the fields... Die.

But AS I WAS SAYING... I've dodged the question because I'm more of a fan of Album-based music (Filter, Finger Eleven, etc.) that's designed around more than a single song.  But, if I had to pick JUST ONE song above all others, it'd be The Call of Ktulu.

When you listen to this song, it's the perfect blend of soft and hard.  You listen to it progress and you can just feel it traveling from one area to another.  It starts in one way, transitions to another, and so on until it concludes back where it began.  Never have I found another song of this length that is so well-developed not to mention this is purely instrumental.  If you look at a Winamp or WMP visualization, you can envision this song evolving in the same way that those do.  I think I would be hard-pressed to choose anything else above this one.

Ktulu is a wonderful song and is definitely one of my favorites by Metallica.

word, though for fave song by metallica and overall, im goin for...
Nothing Else Matters

as Super will attest, I have said since i was in high school that i WILL play this song (myself) at my own wedding, and told my mom and brother to play this song at my funeral should i die before getting married.  This song is so beautiful, and the ripping guitar solo just seals the deal for me.  can you imagine being in a church for a memorial service and this song comes on, all nice and tender.  everybody starts crying and such, and then BAM, that solo/crunch section just comes blaring out. Smiley i want to wreak havoc even when im dead.  thank you to hetfield, hammet, ulrich, and newsted for turning my life around with this five minute tidbit of musical wonderment.

I don't think I've heard that song by Metallica, but it sounds interesting. It's like the one that I played over and over again. It's called 'Independent Love Song' by Scarlet I think. Anyway, it's all soft and then just gets loud for the chorus. I love those types of songs that kind of pull your emotions along for the crescendos.
