OK, what the hell do I do on Sunday?  The Falcons versus the Eagles.

I live in the Atlanta area.  I am a Falcon season ticket holder (no, I wasn't at the game, I was home watching on TV - too expensive for me).  Give me Vick, give me Dunn, give me Crump Dog, give me the adorable Jim Mora Jr, give me Kearney and Brooking.  Heck, even give me Arthur Blank.

But I'm a Philly Girl.  I've been following the Eagles since 1978.  That was the year I finally figured out what the heck first and ten meant.  I know, most of you weren't even born then but I've aged well.  That 1980 Super Bowl loss to the Raiders was awful.

So what do I do?  RichN says I have to root for the Falcons.  I don't think I can.  I don't think I can root for the Eagles 100% either.  I'm actually thinking about finding a cave for about four hours on Sunday while the game is being played.

I did predict an entire Pennsylvania Super Bowl.  Which means it'll be Atlanta and New England.

I'm going for Atlanta, although you brought up something I didn't think of before: Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia - The Pennsylvania Super Bowl. The state would be torn in two

Pennsylvania has always been a state torn in two.  East side versus West side.  You can't be a Steelers fan and an Eagles fan.  You can't root for Pitt and Penn State.  You have to choose.

But yeah, wouldn't it be cool to have an all PA Super Bowl.  They could call it the Turnpike Bowl.

I think that you should find something really wonderful to do that day that will take you away from any news of the game. A small trip? Maybe just a spa day at home. I don't know if you want to be out anywhere, especially with those crazy Atlanta fans running about.  Wink

Said simply: Philadelphia.

I'm from New Jersey and on the right day, I can see Philadelphia from my back window.  And, um, I'd hope for a better name than the Turnpike Bowl (at least go with something unique the Amazing Amish Throwdown or whatever).  All I know is Trotter and the Eagles are going to make a meal out of Michael Vick and his happy feet Smiley

Have to say with the current weather situation, looks like Philly will be a force to contend with.  The Falcons play in a dome.  The players are saying the weather won't be a factor but Vick has to watch himself trying to run.  Finneran can't hold onto the ball inside, let alone outside in the snow and cold.

Now, that Pittsburgh/New England game should be extremely interesting.

And as for a name for an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl?  How about "The Pitt and the Penn-dulum"?

I have no stake in either of the games, but my pretty uninformed opinion is that the Super Bowl is going to end up being the Iggles and the Pats. Like you said disnut, the weather situation is probably going to hurt the Falcons more than the Eagles. Without TO, though, I guess we'll just have to see. All the "experts" have been saying that the Eagles have a built-in excuse should they lose because TO's not going to be playing.

The NE-Pitt game, I think, may be the better game of the day. The Steelers beat the Patriots once before and as long as Big Ben doesn't do anything to hurt his team, they can win. But I think the real difference maker is going to be whatever Belichick has planned. To totally shut down the Colts last week was impressive. Big Ben's going to have to make some plays to beat the Pats and I think they take advantage of that and prolly get a couple of picks on poorly thrown deep balls or something.

In short, though, I think it's going to be the Eagles and the Patriots. I'm probably wrong.

All the "experts" have been saying that the Eagles have a built-in excuse should they lose because TO's not going to be playing.

And that's exactly what happened to the Falcons last year.  "We don't have Vick, therefore we can't win."  But I think the situation in Philly is a lot different.  They have McNabb, they have Westbrook, they have Mitchell.  They have more depth.  When Vick ain't on, the Falcons ain't on.

I'm going to stay positive - I can root for either Eagles or Falcons in the Super Bowl.  Of course, my streak with predicting Super Bowl winners is 0-25.

Right. Without Vick, the Falcons aren't anywhere near the team they are with him. Without TO, the Eagles are still one of the best teams in the NFL, maybe the best. I'll be curious to see what McNabb does about his own happy feet. Did you hear where he said he was trying to run less to get rid of the stereotype that black quarterbacks aren't traditional drop-back passers? I only heard about that the other day, so it's possible it's old news and I just missed the boat.

Who cares about black quarterback stereotypes? If that's how someone wants to play quarterback, then let him be.

I'm opposite of everybody else here it seems. I'm looking at an Atlanta/Pittsburgh matchup

That's sort of what stance I take on the McNabb thing. It's not so much what he wants to do as it is what he needs to do for Philly to win games. If he needs to drop back and throw to TO, fine. If he needs to run because TO's hurt and can't play, fine.

Exactly. Changing his style might affect his team negatively, and all to change a stereotype. Who cares? Geez

Damn right. It's all about winning games, and I think McNabb knows that. I'm sure he'll try his hardest to not run, but if he has to, I fully expect him to tuck and go.

And that's exactly what happened to the Falcons last year.? "We don't have Vick, therefore we can't win."? But I think the situation in Philly is a lot different.? They have McNabb, they have Westbrook, they have Mitchell.? They have more depth.? When Vick ain't on, the Falcons ain't on.

Ask anyone in Philadelphia and you'll hear why the loss last year came.? You can't lose Westbrook AND McNabb and expect to stay standing.? One or the other, perhaps, but not both.? Depth is definitely a necessity in the league.

TO is just a supplement to Freddie Mitchell and our TEs.? From yesterday's game, you can see how easily this team can spread the ball.? TO is good for drawing a single-cover, big name DB away from someone else or making a safety cheat, that's what I really like about him being on the field.

Pitt and Penn State are both in western PA anyway, right? :p

Penn State is pretty much in the middle, but it's the furthest east so that counts.  Wink

Yeah, PSU is generally an Eastern PA/NJ thing anyway, so I'd agree with that assessment.

It's the furthest east decent college sports team.  Not much to choose from in Philly.  (Sorry Catfish).

Rofl, Philadelphia has nothing except basketball schools (St. Joe's, Villanova, Temple).? Not a one of them can even remotely play football.? PSU and Syracuse (screw Maryland) are the two closest decent programs in the area.  A lot of that has to do with the lack of emphasis on high school and college football in the area.  NFL has such a greater following than either of the former.  I think that explains a lot of it.

Prolly just because Maryland is an ACC rival.

Screw (in no particular order):

USC (both of them)
Maryland
Duke
UNC
FSU
California (the state and the University)
Georgia Tech (I like them overall but I hate them as a rival)

and continuing on a different thread, back where this one came from, lol...
Dallas (Cowboys... "$10 for Dallas Sucks..." can be heard on any given day outside of any Philadelphia sports arena)
San Francisco (I just loathe you 9ers)
