So, I'm closing at the theater tonight and we're compacting the trash. Lo and behold, an entire bag full of pretzels that were never eaten. It was heavy. I wonder how many starving children and/or tsunami survivors that could have fed. It's such a waste when things like that can be saved and shipped off to other countries that need food

Maybe if governments would keep their noses out of things we could feed the world. Hell, we could feed the homeless here if someone would be smart enough to...oh wait, Karl Marx is no longer living. Oh well. Our loss.

That ticks me off. I never throw out anything that could be eaten later. Ridiculous. Those people probably lived in Cobb County, GA at some point in their privledged lives.

And y'all know that I get rid of nothing. If can be used by someone, somewhere, I'll hang onto it.

Same reason I never dump out any drink. I'll force myself to drink it (as long as it's safe). No reason to waste something that could be used somewhere else.

Same here. What I hate is when you go to a sit-down restaurant and the server is refilling your drink after you've asked for "only half" or "just a little bit" and they fill it 3/4 or all the way full. I don't want that much but I always end up drinking it all.

I'm the same way. They come along wanting to "refresh" your drink and it becomes difficult to tell them to just back off. My response to them is that if they refill my drink, I'll feel obligated to drink it so it's not wasted. That usually steers them away.

Yeah. I don't mind them refilling it before or while I'm eating since I tend to go through a lot of liquid while I'm eating. After the meal, though, when everyone's just sitting there waiting on the last person to finish or whatever, I still want a little to drink, but only half a glass or so. Even if I put my finger on the glass and say "only to my finger," they always go past it. I don't get it.

Their logic (I would surmise) is that drinks are fairly cheap and are often a gauge for tips. Additionally, if they give more than you ask for, they won't have to come back nearly as soon (i.e. less work for them). I don't think it works the same in the restaurant business, but in fast food, drinks are the single biggest money making product (cmon... you think a crappy laminated plastic cup 2/3 full of ice, 1/3 full of soda costs $1.49 to them?). It just annoys me that they don't listen to things like you're talking about ("Only to here. Any more than that and I start with your little toes...")

Definitely. Thing is, it makes me want to tip less if they don't listen to what I want. If I don't want a full glass of soda, don't friggin' give me one, dagumit.

Agreed. I wave people away a lot and most times if you're adamant enough about it, they notice. I try to be nice and catch them before they're walking back towards me though.

I always feel like I should drink it, but I rarely do. Sometimes I don't think people realize what they waste. Even me, elmono, and the little one waste way too much stuff. We buy things and then it sits there because we forget it or something.

That's because I actually remember that I have one and I remember where I put it... the empty thing is just because I'm too lazy
