NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Approximately 65 percent of young children befriend imaginary companions, and nearly one-third continue to play with them through age 7, new research shows. Rest of story at: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=571&e=7&u=/nm/imaginary_friends_dcAnyone ever have an imaginary friend? I didn't, but apparently I'm in the minority. My six year old daughter doesn't have one that I'm aware of, but she is very in lust with a boy at her school and even showed me where she's going to tattoo his name when she gets older.

I never had an imaginary friend. At least, not one that I can remember. I guess I was always lucky enough to either have a good neighbor friend or one in school.

i missed out on the whole imaginary friend stage of life. Though at times, i've been hardpressed to figure out if my friends now are imaginary or not....

I don't have any imaginary friends, and my friend Bob can vouch for it.

Question: Does this count people that are "real", but you pretend don't exist or that aren't your friends when others are around, or is this only being applied to those that exist in your mind (like that hot chick in your math class that you think you're "friends" with)?

I think she meant friends that are of your own mind, which no one else can see or hear. Basically, non-existant people.

Ah, ok... though that could still be that math class chick, depending on how boring your math class is ;)

There's nothing wrong with a little eye candy during class, though :-)

haha... nothing wrong w/acknowledging the reality of things w/o talking about them... it's human nature for our minds to wander and at least imagine... it's healthy to keep your mind active... the problem is when some of those imaginations go a bit too far :x

Yes, but ghosts ARE real. Yes...but not everyone believes in them. As for the imaginary friends...nope, all my not-so-real friends came from books.

I used to see gremlins when I was a kid in Alexandria, VA. They scared the heck out of me. Every once in awhile, they'd wait for me at the bottom of the stairs, on the railing. You see, my bedroom was the only room on the third floor of the house so I had to go downstairs to do anything. So, I'd just sit at the top of the stairs, wishing they would go away. Eventually, I just had to run the gauntlet and get past them. And I am not making this up...

The fun part about this is that I can almost see this since I knew you only a few years after when this would have happened.

El Mono, you scare the crap out of me. All this time, I thought you were "normal".
When I was a kid, my friend was "Sue Green". She went everywhere with me. I once caused the entire camping party of about twenty people to go on a two hour search for me because I was out walking with my "pal".
We had a lot of fun and I didn't understand why everyone was so upset. I was about seven years old at the time and the place we were at was a very secluded forest. Oops.
