I know a better idea... many leagues use a little thing called the mercy rule. Another thing, how do you tell these kids to stop playing as hard as they can? That's not right. That's not teaching them how to play sports.

That is ridiculous.  So, the first string runs the score up to 40-0, and you have to tell the scrubs to just sit on the ball, or coach will get suspended.  Wonderful.

This is something that I'm kind of sitting on both sices of the fence on, honestly. I totally agree that kids should play as hard as they can for the entire game, which could lead to running up the score. But think of it from the other side: your team is just getting pounded. Lots of high school kids play sports for fun and where's the fun in getting the crap kicked out of you?

I'm pretty sure they all play for fun. But there's other ways of preventing blow outs like that other than suspending the coach. I read on the ATOT forums that some districts use a continuous clock if a team is leading by 35 or more points. That's a better way than suspending the coach for doing his job.

Oh, I agree. Suspending the coach is the wrong way to approach the problem. Continuos clock would be a good way to do that. Or the aforementioned mercy rule for non-timed sports like baseball.

I know a lot of high school baseball leagues do the 10 run rule so innings don't drag on forever

In related news, several high school teachers are facing suspension because their students achieved scores higher than 1500 on their SAT.

"It's just bad for the self esteem of the other students," says Laura, parent of a student who has taken the SAT 3 times in hopes to score higher than 500, "Just because my kid spends all of her time chatting on AOL instant messenger instead of studying and may be borderline retarded doesn't mean other students should be able to exceed her score by over 1000 points."

Several other parents also voiced their concerns, but they were too busy watching American Idol to give any kind of coherent comment.

Uh, if you got a 500 then, you were retarded to the point of "Well, I know my name and maybe a few letters of the alphabet" but the SAT is now on a 2400-point scale so if you get 500 now, you're probably enough of a dumbass that you don't know your name. In fact, you probably have flappy arms and googly eyes.

I'm such an ass.

I hated the SAT's!

I felt so dumb because I didn't do well at all. The thing is I know that I'm not stupid, but I can't seem to take tests well.

I feel bad for Marlie because she's the same way, but now they have those IEP's so they actually help her with that instead of assuming she's stupid just because she can't connect what's in her head to the act of coloring in stupid bubble sheets.

Are you certain of this?  Your test results say otherwise.

I kid.  They've done away with the 400-1600 scale now?  What, so people can get bigger numbers and feel better?  They should just make it simple and have a 0-100 scale.

But yeah, tests suck.  I'm slow to recall things.  It's not that I don't know them.  It just takes a few minutes for them to come to the surface.  Naturally, they don't give you a few minutes to answer each question, so you're forced to either guess or not have as much time to answer the rest of the questions.

They bumped it to 2400 because they added another 800-point section. Not sure what it is: creative writing or something, I want to say.

I took it once. Got a bad score. Of course, these morons who put together the SATs don't realize having people coming in at 8 in the morning does not contribute to high scores. One o'clock is a good time. That way you're up and not tired and you can easily get a decent meal in before it.

IEPS! Hoo boy! So good for the kids most of the time, but they can be a hassle to teachers from time to time.... i.e. I had a class in which 19 of the 24 kids were on IEPS... makes it hard to get them all in the individualized education they needed.  Good to hear that it's working for Marlie though, good on them local area teachers!  woot.
