Will the long-buried Disney classic Song of the South finally see the light of day? Long-buried is right. I've never even heard of it.

It's the movie with Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear, and Br'er Fox with the whole Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah song ("There's a blue bird on my shoulder...")

It's a classic that even merits a ride (oops, I mean attraction) at Didney World. Mispelling was intentional for certain individuals on this board. With their reasoning about when it was made, then why isn't Gone With the Wind banned? "I ain't birfin no baby!" seems to be more critical of African Americans than anything I remember from Song of the South.

Gone With the Wind isn't owned by the ultra conservative Disney, that's the difference

And I guess that's my point. It has nothing to do with what the black community thinks about the movie, but what Disney THINKS the black community thinks about it. Not sure if that made any sense.

It is sad when you are on the attraction at Disney World inspired by Song of the South and your 19 year old niece has to be told the plot line because she's never had the opportunity to see the film.
Yes, Disney is ultra conservative. Because if they didn't watch every little thing they do, someone somewhere will get pissed off and create yet another media blitz. But also realize that Gay Day has now been greatly expanded into Gay Weekend and Disney does absolutely nothing to stop it. They even "encourage" it a little. Can't be all that conservative with thousands of red T-shirts at Magic Kingdom the first Saturday in June.
My prediction - if "Song of the South" is released, Jesse Jackson will call for a boycott of all things Disney.

Yup, I remember. That was a fun trip. Only thing I wish, though, was that it was after our senior year. You, me, Justin, and Joe was great fun in St. Louis and it would have been even more in Orlando.

Actually, I think they were sharing one bed and you and I were in the other. I distinctly remember it being quiet and then looking over towards the window and seeing two shadows move through the light. At that point, I covered my junk (I spent way too much time around Rusty and Brandon, hehe) and not a second later, they threw the mattress on top of us and jumped on it.
I also remember we had like 4 12-packs of soda and the best solution we had to cool them was to fill up the trash can with ice and put the sodas in it. I don't remember who it was, but one of us knocked over the trash can the next morning and of course, all the ice had melted. I stepped in it... that was some cold water.

Looking back on it, I don't know that the trash can was necessarily the best place to put our beverages, haha. I can't remember for sure but I don't recall any of us having the foresight to leave the plastic liner in the can, haha.
Honestly, I think I had more fun in the 2 days to St. Louis than I did that whole week in Orlando. I didn't really know too many people after 10th grade. It wasn't really until I got up to 1st part in marching band and wind ensemble that I was anyone remotely "cool" in band.

Naw, I was never cool really. I guess spending all that time around Brandon and Rusty tended to put me in situations where I may have been cool, haha.
Dunno if you remember, but did you see Brandon and I sumo wrestling that one day in the band room?

time to see if anybody freaks out. The Disney adaptation of the brer rabbit story is pretty tame, but there could be objections as it does tie invariably to the OLD brer rabbit, which had its negative connotations. Ahhhh, I wish old Walt was still around; what a weirdo he was, you know we would have had some more good stuff by now. FANTASIA is like a trip out on drugs, song of the south has its social commentary, and Walt built a friggin apartment in the Magic Kingdom castle for himself (though he never lived in it; died first i believe). Great guy, LOTS OF ISSUES haha.

He had issues because he thought he killed his mom. Sucks about that. Stupid Snow White.
Hey! Bambi is out! Woo hoo! Time to turn my daughter against her father! (He's a hunter.) Maybe I shouldn't let her see it.
As for Song of the South, I can't wait to see it since I don't remember much about it.
