Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

« on: Jan 02, 2005, 10:23 PM »

Well, it appears that Clemson has finally revoked my username and by doing so, they've taken away my best place to host files. Incidentally, they broke my website by doing so since I was using their space to host my photos *snicker* I guess it's probably time to find a proper host as it's probably not the best idea to leave the site where it is.

I think the most effective way to get a U: back is probably to re-enroll, heh.

And that costs more money than server space

Oh, no doubt. I could have hosting for years for the price of buying on semester's worth of books. I guess what I need to do is wipe my Apache logs clean and see how much bandwidth is actually needed for a month of use and see what I actually need from a host. Space isn't a huge factor, I don't think. I can still use my personal ftp for that. When I backed up the public_html directory last week, it wasn't even 100MB. And the database file was tiny. I guess MySQL is extremely efficient.

I just had a potentially great idea in relation to the hosting. planetsuper.com is hosted for free by a member of ATOT but the space and bandwidth are limited (actually, the 50MB of space probably isn't too far off from what planetsuper needs but the 500MB of bandwidth is nowhere near enough). I was thinking of asking Ross if I could upgrade to a pay account for a few bucks a month and increase my space and bandwidth. Now that I've got my own server set up, I can use that exclusively for any files I might need to host. Split the bandwidth up, basically.

Sorry to hear about the demise of your free minimal storage space :/  Guess that's bad news for a few people

Well, it's not so much the storage space as it is the bandwidth. That problem will be solved with my new host, though.

Really? Maybe mine's not gone after all... maybe it's just my password or something.

Anyway, now that the new hosting is up and working, I don't really even need my U: I have more space and ample bandwidth here. Combined with the already existing ftp server at the dyndns and I really have no need to spread my stuff out over three servers. I might just let it go, haha.
