The Ariel Atom. Featured on Top Gear a few days ago. It only has a Civic Type-R engine but it weighs less than 500kg, making the power:weight ratio better than most supercars. On Top Gear's test track, driven by an expert driver, the only car they've ever tested that was faster was none other than the Ferrari Enzo. The Atom is so fast that even the Stig almost lost it at the end of the lap.

Best part? It only costs 29,000 pounds. That's like, $50,000 or something. And it almost beats the Enzo, which costs close to $1 million. Amazing. I want one.

Weird? That car is awesome. It's essentially a supercar for a fraction of the price. Only drawback is that the only creature comfort it has is that it has seats :-P

i think the aesthetic of the car lends itself to the old 1920s-30s race cars... that shape is killer, though i would probably reduce some drag by adding some side panels that didnt have the gaps and structure showing.  with $970,000 you save by not buying an enzo you could add all sorts of stuff... i could also steamline those side panels by placing speakers in all those gaps! mwahaha, the loudest fastest car around... though it aint the engine, its the metallica disturbing the neighbors.

Yeah, some panels would be nice and some speakers would be even better. But I think I could get by with it just the way it is. That's definitely not meant to be a daily driver and when you do take it out to a track or something (how awesome would it be to live in Nurburg and take that around the Nurburgring?), I know I'd be taking it out for the pure excitement of driving it. I think hearing the engine whining and the air being sucked into the intake right beside your head would be just as enjoyable as any music.
