Bodies found in park scoured for missing Milwaukee boys

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CNN) -- Two decomposed bodies were found Friday night in a lagoon where searchers have looked for two Milwaukee, Wisconsin, boys who disappeared nearly a month ago, police said.

Milwaukee Police Chief Nan Hegerty said the bodies had not been identified.
Quadrevion Henning, 12, and Purvis Parker, 11, were last seen March 19 as they headed off to play ball at a park near their homes in north-central Milwaukee.

"I'm not going to make any identification until we're sure," Hegerty said.

"It looks like the body has been in the lagoon for quite some time," she said after the first body was found. The initial examination could not determine that body's race or whether it had suffered any trauma, she said.

Autopsies are planned for Saturday morning, after which identifications may be made, she said.

After the boys disappeared, the park around the lagoon was searched at least three times by officers on foot, and a dive team searched the water, Hegerty said.

The first body was discovered Friday night by a man and his son who were walking through the park and saw the body floating on the water, she said. The second body was found a short time later.

*UPDATE*

Autopsy: Milwaukee boys drowned

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (CNN) -- There was no evidence of injury or foul play that would suggest criminal activity in the deaths of two boys whose bodies were pulled from a Milwaukee, Wisconsin park lagoon Friday night, autopsies show.

Police confirmed Saturday that the decomposed bodies are those of Quadrevion Henning, 12, and Purvis Parker, 11, who disappeared nearly a month ago. Autopsy results showed that the boys drowned.

The boys were last seen March 19 as they headed to McGovern Park near their homes -- where the lagoon is -- to play ball.

On Friday, relatives said they were shown photos and were convinced the bodies were those of the missing boys.

There is speculation that one of the boys fell in, said Police Chief Nan Hegerty, and that the other went in to try to rescue him. Both were fully dressed.

She said the bodies appeared to have been in the water for some time.

The first body was discovered floating on the water by a man and his son, who were walking through the park , Hegerty said. The second body was found a short time later by divers.
